Missouri State Employee Retirement System / Deferred compensation plan / Health insurance (medical, vision, dental for employees and family) / Paid life insurance / Long-term disability insurance / Cafeteria plan / Paid holidays / 10 hours annual leave per month / 10 hours sick leave per month / Uniforms provided when required / Pre-service and in-service training / Access to credit union / Direct deposit of paycheck (required) / Employee health, wellness and safety initiatives / MOST 529 College Savings ProgramThe Department of Corrections is the only State agency that currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of service up to 20 years!What you'll do:Serves as: assistant/relief shift supervisor in an adult correctional facility with the Division of Adult Institutions OR assistant/relief shift supervisor in a community release center with the Division of Probation and Parole OR assistant to the Chief of Custody at the Cremer Therapeutic Community Center with the Division of Offender Rehabilitative ServicesSupervises and instructs lower-level Correctional Officers and/or Probation and Parole Assistants; develops expectations and monitors performance and work habits; and provides assistance with problems as they ariseDirects a major activity such as control center operation or reception/orientation processPatrols living quarters/grounds/buildings to observe offender behaviors and the effectiveness of Correctional Officers/Probation and Parole Assistants; performs shift/post assignments, inspects staff arriving for duty; directs/performs regular rounds of assigned posts to ensure that Correctional Officers or Probation and Parole Assistants are on duty and attentive to their duties/supervises periodic counts of offenders Discusses minor adjustment problems with offenders; refers serious problems to proper correctional facility staff; promotes rehabilitation by attempting to modify offender's social attitudes/discouraging undesirable behaviors/encouraging worthwhile activitiesPerforms regular rounds of assigned posts to ensure that Correctional Officers or Probation and Parole Assistants are on duty and attentive to their dutiesInvestigates offender disturbances and complaints; directs the maintenance of discipline among offendersAssists in conducting training sessions for staff/performs work in accordance with established rules and regulations/receives general administrative direction/performs other relates work as assignedA physical examination by a physician may be required before or at the time of appointment to determine if the applicant meets the physical standards for employment established by the Missouri Department of CorrectionsBy assignment, a position may require possession of a valid vehicle operator's license All you need for success:Minimum Qualifications:Three or more years of experience in the custody of adult criminal offenders in a city, county, state, or federal facility, of which one year must have been as a Correctional Sergeant or Senior Probation and Parole Assistant with the Missouri Department of Corrections; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalencyAll requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed.The Missouri Department of Corrections is proud to have a tradition of promotion from within for employees looking for and seeking distinctive career paths.
